One of the unnumbered artist's proofs, before letters, outside the signed edition of 100, printed by Mourlot, Paris; there was also an unsigned edition of 500 with letters (which advertised an exhibition at the Céret museum in 1957).

Inscribed 'épreuve d'artiste' in pencil.
This poster features a portrait of Manolo Hugnet and was created for an exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Ceret, France from August to October in 1957. The museum was founded in 1950 with personal support of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.

Hugnet was a Catalan artist, who helped welcome Picasso to Paris and the art scene, and both men remained friends throughout their lives. Hugnet was primarily a sculptor and moved to Céret, a small, historical town in the south west of France, very near to the Spanish border, and from where Picasso could see his beloved country.
